High Holydays 2010: Tishrei 5771
The Jewish holidays in the fall are often called the "High Holidays" or "High Holydays". In Hebrew they are called the "Yomim Nora'im", "The Days of Awe". This title reflects the utmost importance of these holidays in the Jewish religion.
The holidays of the Jewish month of Tishrei (see our explanation of the jewish calendar year ) are:
- Rosh Hashanah -- The Jewish New Year ( Leviticus 23:23-24). Also known as the Day of Judgment, is Thursday and Friday, 09-10 September, 2010 (holiday starts at sundown on Wednesday night September 08). Buy Jewish New Year Greeting Cards.
- Yom Kippur -- The Day of Atonement ( Leviticus 23: 26-32). Saturday 18 September, 2010. Kol Nidre is Friday night.
- Sukkot -- The Festival of Booths (Leviticus 23:33-44)

Chanukah 2010
The Festival of Lights. First candle lighting in the evening of Wednesday 01 December 2010 (the first "day" of Chanukah being Thursday 02 December, 2010).
